As a community, I think we can be proud of this incredible event we pull off every year at Lynford School on the first weekend of September – come rain or sun, this action-packed family fun sporting weekend goes on! Having grown up in Ixopo, I have been to this event many times in my life and can see how it’s changed and evolved over the years. But there are a few things that never change: It’s always fun and with many, many laughs! It brings us together as a community – we’re all here for the event! It’s all about family, community, friends, sport and family entertainment!
The Lynford Country Weekend is a school fund-raising event. With the proceeds of this event, we are able to offer bursaries, send our kids on incredible tours such as the annual Grade 7 Botswana trip and improve our school facilities such as our new Astro turf and hall. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for us to support local business as a well as a way for our sponsors to reach the entire the community, one time!

This jam-packed weekend includes everything from Enduro, pony rides, hockey, soccer, trail running, musicians, market, an auction tent, camping, kids entertainment, a sweet explosion and the newest and probably most entertaining event to date, the wife carrying event!

When the best cooks and bakers of the community come together to make a menu, watch out! You’ll not go hungry! This years menu included butter chicken, pulled pork rolls and a tea garden fit for a queen!

And now…for the most entertaining event of the whole weekend….The Wife Carrying Race! Well done to the Turners, winners of the 2024 wife carrying event!
